As we move into a new school year, Good Counsel welcomes the freshman Class of 2027 to its community with open arms. Knowing that these students are new to the whole “high school” thing, some seniors were asked if they had any advice for these incoming students entering the first year of their high school career.
The responses were remarkable, ranging from small bits of knowledge to wise words that could have a lasting impact on these new students.
“If you’re not losing once in a while, you’re doing something wrong.”

“Stress is the thief of joy. If you live your entire high school career worrying and stressing about things, you’ll never really experience high school.
Enjoy life as it comes to you, and just be ready to adapt to whatever comes your way.”

“Make the best decisions now because you might be stuck with them for the rest of your high school career.
Choose the right friends, join the extracurriculars you’ll enjoy, and take the classes that’ll get you on a comfortable track later.”
-Chris Patiag ‘24
“You’re here for four years. The social drama doesn’t matter as much as you think it does.”

“Some things can seem important at the moment, but it’s more important to prioritize the right things over trivial issues.”

“You need to have a good balance with everything you plan to participate in. Being an IB Diplomat and achieving high honors is fantastic, but not when you’re neglecting your mental health, friends, and the interests that keep you happy.”
-Annecamie Augustin ’24
“Try to have a positive impact on people. Also, the less you care about what others think of you, the more free you feel.”
-Oli Scholl ’24
