Fun October Activities in Maryland

As the spooky season commences and Halloweekend arrives, one may be wondering what to do to celebrate the haunted holiday. Read more to find out about fall themed activities to do in Maryland this season!

Haunted Houses
The DMV area is full of options for haunted houses. Laurel House of Horror is an immersive haunted house experience that takes place in an abandoned movie theater. For those who prefer the outdoor experience, The Nevermore House in Baltimore, Maryland is hosted outside and features dressed up zombies, vampires, clowns and more!

Field of Screams
The #1 rated Halloween attraction in Maryland is Field of Screams. It is held in Olney, Maryland and is highly populated this time of year. It is described as a spooky spin on a carnival. Enjoy a walk through the maze as zombies pop out to scare you at every turn. Ticket prices begin at $64. Get them while they’re hot!

Halloween Movies
Looking for a more low key vibe this week? Gather your friends and go and see a scary movie! Horror and thriller films always attract large crowds around Halloween. This year, there is a wide array of newly released movies to choose from. Smile, Prey for the Devil, and Terrifier 2 are among the many highly anticipated horror films released this October.

Harvest Festivals
For those who may not celebrate Halloween or be a fan of the spooky theme, there are other fall-themed options that don’t involve zombies or other supernatural creatures. The Fall Festival takes place on Friday, October 28 and features fall-themed decorations, food, and games.

Trunk or Treat
A fun, daytime alternative to Trick-or-Treating is Trunk-or-Treat. Trunk-or-Treat is a fun spin on Trick-or-Treating which allows participants to decorate the trunks of their cars and store candy in them in a large display. This is an activity that can take place anytime, anywhere and can include people from all different neighborhoods. It is popular in school communities or other large groups and clubs.

Though many grocery stores and markets sell pre-picked pumpkins, why not make a day of it and go pumpkin picking? There are many pumpkin patches in Maryland to pick from (no pun intended)! Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch, Butler’s Orchard, and Homestead Farm Pumpkin Patch are among the many. It can be a great activity to enjoy with family or friends and an opportunity to bask in the cool autumn weather!
