Members of the GC Swim and Dive team participate in the Washington Metropolitan Swim & Dive Championships

This past weekend at the Washington Metropolitan Swim & Dive Championships, the swim and dive team represented Good Counsel proudly, and we had three athletes win individual events. Metros, which is the biggest high school meet in the area, offers athletes the opportunity to compete against their peers from both private and public schools. Approximately 35 schools of each gender are represented.

Senior Haley Marshall, who is headed to UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall, opened the meet by defending her title in the 11-dive competition. Next, senior captain and renaissance man Sean Santos (you’ve seen him singing at Mass) won the longest event of the meet – the 500 yard freestyle. Sean has signed to swim at Georgia Tech in the fall. Finally, junior Madison Smith, who has

verbally committed to the University of Michigan, followed Sean’s swim with a win of her own in the 500 free. In one evening, Madison shattered two Good Counsel school records: the 500 free record set by Rachael Burke in 2001 and the 200 free record set by Liz Kemp in 2006.

Other athletes to finish in the top 20 include Erin Haines ’23, Owen Watkins ’24, and Fiona Tworkowski ’25. Relay swimmers contributing to top 20 finishes include aforementioned athletes, along with Will Potter ’22, Chase Keeler ’24, Nikolai Kalinin ’25, Brookelynn Weinberg ’23, Kaley Markovitz ’24, Brea Brown ’25, Lauren Smith ’25, and Kate Miller ’25.
