Managing Anxiety While in Quarantine

During this time of uncertainty in our world, it is essential to take care of your mental health. Mental health affects how the body thinks, how it acts, and how it feels. When someone doesn’t follow a normal routine, it is difficult to be productive and happy. In our daily lives, it can be challenging to stick to a routine, but the more normal life is, the more it can help. Going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up at one as well are tips proven to help with anxiety. Not only will this help ease stress and anxiety while social distancing, but it will also help ease you back into a regular routine once the stay at home orders are lifted.

Another way to combat anxiety during quarantine is by changing mindsets. During this challenging time, it can be tough to see the good in social distancing, especially when major life events, plans, and trips continue to be canceled. Instead of looking at how bad it is, try looking at the positive aspects of social distancing. Most people have more free time with sports and extra-curricular activities being canceled. Trying something new, for example, developing a new hobby might very well be an option to help with anxiety.

Another way to help ease anxiety is to communicate. Communication is a big part of everyday life, and it can help with anxiety. There are many ways to contact friends and other family members, whether it be by zoom or text messaging. Not talking to anyone could lead to more worries, and could result in becoming sad or depressed. It is also essential to exercise and get fresh air; go outside on hikes, bike rides, or walks. This will help you feel less trapped inside the house.

The most prominent cause of anxiety during this difficult time can be the Coronavirus itself. The fear of catching it and passing to others could harm a person’s mental health. It is important to be aware of the news and updates, but watching the news continuously for updates and new data is not good for a person’s mental health. Limiting consumption of news updates to thirty minutes a day could help with anxiety.

The importance of taking care of your mental health is just as vital as taking care of your physical health. For most of us, caring for others is an integral part of our core being. But we must also remember that self-care is equally as important.
