The Latest Addition: GC’s New-and-Improved Baseball Field

Baseball field in construction to be the beautiful thing it is now.

This past October, the renovations to the GC baseball field were completed. Good Counsel’s baseball team’s recent success has led to calls for structural improvements; Head Coach Tim Park has helped the team reach the championship twice and the semi-finals once from 2015-2017.

The suggested improvements included adjusting the irregular curvature of the field, shortening the backstop, and creating a practice infield. The plan also involved tearing down the hill behind the baseball field, and replacing the very thick grass to a warm-weather, manageable grass. The soil and grass that was taken from the baseball field was used to level out the practice field on the east side of Good Counsel.

Throughout the 2016-2017 school year, the baseball team held several fundraisers to raise money for the field improvements, and finally finished the project in October. The new field has built up a lot of excitement around the upcoming season; as varsity starter Sam Smith puts it, “I’m extremely excited to get a chance to soon play on one of the best high school baseball facilities in the state.”

The construction of the baseball field was a small part of a myriad of changes made around the school. Hopefully these improvements help lead to not only a better baseball team, but a better Good Counsel community!
