Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team in Crash Making a Difference

In early April, a Canadian junior hockey team called the Broncos from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, was heading for a playoff game when their bus tragically crashed with a tractor trailer on a highway intersection, leaving every passenger on the bus dead or injured. Of the twenty-nine, fifteen were killed and the rest injured, with one more dying in the following days. The driver of the other trailer was not harmed.

As tragic and heartbreaking as this is, there was a light at the end of the tunnel for others in need. Having recently registered as an organ donor, 21-year-old Logan Boulet had six organs that were matched and able to be donated to save others, including his lungs and heart. He was kept long enough on life support for doctors to salvage his organs. Reports have stated that even in their mourning, the family finds comfort in the hope Boulet gave to those six patients. He was called their “hero” on social media, giving them a second chance at life despite the end of his.

Inspired by his selflessness, people across Canada have stepped up to follow his example. Numbers of organ donor sign-ups skyrocketed in the week following the crash, in the hopes that even in tragedy lives can be saved. It’s as simple as signing up.
