Letter from the Co-Editors: On The Return of the Austringer

For decades, Good Counsel had some form of a literary arts magazine, first with The Rhubarb and later The Austringer. Literary arts magazines are essential for school communities: they provide a platform for students to share their creative endeavors, whether it be poetry, prose, painting, drawing, or any other artistic works. This year, we (the students) were incredibly excited to reintroduce The Talon in an online format, but we wanted to be able to share an even more diverse array of student perspectives.

The Spring 2018 Austringer, published on April 27th, brings together selected visual and written work from over twenty Good Counsel students, curated into an online magazine. (Link: https://goo.gl/6RjwPZ) The Austringer staff has also created a website (Link: http://gcaustringer.org/) to share literary arts content on a regular basis. The site includes information on how to submit to The Austringer, club news/announcements, resources for student writers/artists, and regular features of professional writers’/artists’ works. Additionally, on the day of the launch, The Austringer hosted a poetry reading and coffeehouse in the library, during which over 30 students read their favorite original or published poetry. The Austringer staff looks forward to hosting similar events in the future, where students can gather for fun, food, and the arts.

Join The Talon staff in celebrating the return of the Austringer, and supporting our peers, by reading the Spring issue and checking out the website!
