With Thanksgiving gone by and Christmas right around the corner, it’s safe to say that we are now in the thick of the holiday season. With the holidays come beloved traditions for all of us, and Good Counsel is no exception! Here are just a few of the holiday traditions we celebrate here at Good Counsel.
The Christmas Concert
One of the highlights of the GC musical scene, this grand performance is held early each December. All of the band, directed by Mr. Kramer and choir sections, directed by Mr. Spottswood, perform many of your favorite Christmas classics and some original hits written by Mr. Spottswood. All of this before the backdrop of a winter wonderland, complete with snow. Drinks and snacks are included! This year’s concert will be on December 8th and is free for all students, but you must reserve your ticket in advance.
Christmas Decorating
Christmas decorating is a beloved custom everywhere, and it’s no surprise that Good Counsel students and faculty love to take part in it as well. All across the school, you’ll find all sorts of ways Good Counsel faculty and staff find to spruce up the space with festive cheer, from lights to Christmas trees. Be sure to check out the Media Center and the doors of many classrooms to see the best examples of decorative cheer. To many teachers, having the most festive rooms can be a point of pride and competition!
Gingerbread House Competition
Mixing competitive and festive spirit, this event entails several teams of 4-5 students racing to construct and decorate gingerbread houses of their own design, which are then displayed in the Dining Hall and judged by students voting throughout the week. The winner takes home bragging rights and the glory of having the best gingerbread house! The date for this event has not been announced yet by the Student Government Association (SGA), but stay tuned for more details.
Be sure to pay attention to the Daily Bulletin and GC social media to stay up to date on information for these upcoming events and more. Happy holidays!!
