Booms of the Week

Quarterback:

Cam Newton: Cam Newton was terrible in the Panthers’ past game against the Dolphins. Terrible. Newton recorded a 23.81% completion percentage and two interceptions on 21 throws before being benched midway through the game. However, Newton has the perfect opportunity for a bounce-back game against the Falcons. The Falcons have allowed the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. In addition, they have also allowed the fourth-most rushing yards to quarterbacks, a stat that the mobile Newton could exploit.

Running Back:

Saquon Barkley: Since returning from injury in week 11, Saquon Barkley has looked anything but his dominant self. Barkley had averaged 40 rushing yards a game, with no touchdowns. However, things will change on Sunday when facing the Chargers run defense. The Chargers have allowed for the second most running back rushing yards, and the second most running back rushing touchdowns. Expect for Barkley to look more like himself against a weak run defense.

Wide Receiver:

Diontae Johnson: Without Juju Smith-Schuster playing this season, Diontae Johnson has firmly established himself as the Steelers’ number one receiver. Johnson has recorded 76 catches for 914 yards and 6 touchdowns. Sunday against the Vikings, Johnson will continue his hot season. The Vikings have allowed the third most wide receiver touchdowns and receiving yards in the league.

Tight End:

Travis Kelce: Travis Kelce has been a dominant receiver in the league again this year, averaging 12.1 yards a catch on 70 catches for 848 yards and 5 catches. He will continue the dominance against the Eagles, who have allowed the most yards and touchdowns to tight ends.

Busts of the Week

Quarterback:

Tom Brady: On Sunday, Tom Brady will be facing the Buffalo Bills and will struggle. Yes, the Bills defense was embarrassed by the Patriots on Monday Night Football, allowing 222 rushing yards. But the Bills defense has been consistently good at causing opposing quarterbacks havoc. The Bills have allowed the least passing touchdowns in the league, and have forced the third-most interceptions in the league. Tom Brady will likely struggle against Buffalo.

Running Back:

Nick Chubb: Nick Chubb has had a good season so far but will struggle against the Ravens. The Ravens have a superb run defense this year. The Ravens have allowed 71.58 rushing yards per game to running backs, the second least in the NFL. In addition, when Nick Chubb played the Ravens in week 11, Chubb could only muster 16 yards on 8 carries.

Wide Receiver:

Cooper Kupp: Cooper Kupp isn’t having one of the best games in Rams history this year, recording 100 catches for 1366 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, the Cardinals will cause Kupp troubles on Sunday. The Cardinals have allowed the fourth least wide receiver receiving yards in the league and the 8th least catches for wide receivers. The last time Kupp played Arizona this season, he was held to 5 catches for 64 yards and no touchdowns, his lowest totals this season.

Tight End:

C.J. Uzomah: C.J. Uzomah has had an up and down season, recording two games of 90-plus yards of receiving, and then 4 games with less than ten yards. This week against the Bears will be one of those downs. The Bears have allowed the third least tight end receiving yards and the 6th least tight end receptions.
