Starts of the Week

Quarterback:

Ryan Tannehill: In his first season without play caller Arthur Smith in Tennessee, Tannehill has struggled a bit. Tannehill’s completion percentage, touchdown percentage, interception percentage and yards per attempt have all dropped. Some of this can be attributed to the lack of A.J. Brown in the offense, who has missed time due to injury and has also struggled being productive in the offense. However, in the second half of the Monday night game against Buffalo, Tannehill and Brown caught stride against a strong Bills defense. Tannehill and Brown connected on 7 receptions for 91 yards. This hot streak will continue against the Chiefs, who have struggled against the pass. The Chiefs have given up 287.5 passing yards a game, and 11 total passing touchdowns.

Running Back:

Alvin Kamara: Coming off a bye week, Alvin Kamara will gash the Seattle run defense. Kamara has 481 scrimmage yards this season, along with 4 total touchdowns. The Seattle run defense this year has struggled. They have allowed 121 running back rushing yards a game, the fourth most in the league. They have also allowed the second most running back receiving yards. For a dual threat running back like Kamara, this is a dream matchup for him.

Wide Receiver:

Devante Adams: Devante Adams will explode against Washington. Adams has 668 receiving yards and 46 catches so far this season and will continue to go on a tear against a weak Washington during season defense. Washington has allowed 212.5 yards to wide receivers a game, and nine total touchdowns, the second-most in the league. Adams is one of the best receivers in the league, and he will show it against Washington.

Tight End:

Darren Waller: In a week weak for tight ends, Darren Waller steps out. Waller has had 33 catches for 378 and 2 touchdown receptions so far this season. On Sunday, Waller will be facing a Eagles defense that has not defended tight ends well. The Eagles have allowed the third most receptions to tight ends (40), and the most tight end touchdowns (5). Waller will have a big game against Philadelphia.

Defense:

Saints Defense: The Saints defense has been stellar this year. They have allowed only 18.2 points per game, the second least in the league. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore has allowed only a 41.9% completion percentage and a 68.1 quarterback rating when targeted. On Monday night, they will be facing a Seattle offense that was a mixed bag in its first game with Geno Smith at the helm. In the first half against Pittsburgh, Seattle scored zero points with 55 net yards of offense, punting on every single drive, including one that ended on the Steelers’ 38. In the second half, however, the run game came alive, with Alex Collins finishing the game with 101 rushing yards and Seattle scoring 20 points, forcing overtime where a Geno Smith turnover would lead to a game-winning Steelers field goal. However, the Saints defense is better than the Steelers defense, and Seattle will struggle most of the game as they did in the first half against the Steelers.

Bench Warmers of the Week

Quarterback:

Mac Jones: Mac Jones has been the best rookie quarterback. Out of all the rookies, he has the highest completion percentage, 71.1%, and the most passing touchdowns, 7. However, he may struggle Sunday against the Jets. As much as the Jets have been a laughing stock the past few years, their pass defense has been strong this season. The Jets have allowed the sixth least passing yards in the league, and have allowed the least amount of passing touchdowns in the league (4).

Running Back:

Alex Collins: Alex Collins has been a popular fantasy pickup after his performance against Pittsburgh. Collins finished with 101 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. However, the momentum may end this week against the Saints. The Saints rushing defense has been stellar this season. They have allowed only 2.8 rushing yards an attempt, and 55 running back rushing yards a game. Furthermore, Collins may be hampered due to an injury suffered against the Steelers.

Wide Receiver:

DeVonta Smith: The 2020 Heisman winner has been off to a hot start his rookie season. Devonta Smith has 27 catches for 345 yards, on pace for a 900+ yard season. However, the rookie will face a tough task against the Raiders. The Raiders defense has been phenomenal this season after struggling last year. They have allowed the 6th fewest wide receiver receiving yards, and the second least wide receiver touchdowns.

Tight End:

Mo Alie-Cox: Mo Alie- Cox has been a productive tight end so far this season, having 152 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. However, he will not be productive Sunday as the Colts will be facing the 49ers. The 49ers have allowed only 31.6 tight receiving yards a game, and only one total tight end touchdown. Cornerback Casey Hayward has 4 pass deflections and has allowed a 42.9% completion percentage.

Defense:

Bengals Defense: The Bengals defense this year has quietly been exceptional, allowing the fifth fewest points and 8th fewest yards. However, Sunday against the Ravens will be an exception. The Ravens have scored 28.4 points per game, 7th most in the league, and quarterback Lamar Jackson has been phenomenal. Jackson has averaged 281 passing yards a game with a 67.5% completion percentage. When not passing, Jackson has torn up opponents rushing, with 65.3 rushing yards per game and 6.1 yards per rushing attempt. Expect for the dual threated Jackson to give the Bengals issues.
