Fantasy Football Picks: Week 1
Get the upper hand in your fantasy football leagues
GC Talon Sports is your place for weekly Fantasy Football analysis from someone who is in a league with school friends like yours. If you need tips on who to pick up, start, and sit, come by each NFL week to get your fill.
Waiver Wire QuarterBack: Case Keenum (1.2% Rostered) Despite the loss against the Eagles, Case Keenum proved to be starter quality for the redskins with 3 touchdowns and 380 passing yards. He put up 27 fantasy points against a strong Eagles defense, and, while I don’t expect him to repeat his performance again and again, against the cardinals you can rely on him to get a similar point count. He is most likely available in your league, so go pick him up.
Waiver Wire Running Back: Malcolm Brown (7.3 % Rostered) Malcolm Brown had a huge 2 touchdown game Sunday. Still, with Todd Gurley as the starter and a Rams offense loaded with other stars, it seems that Brown won’t be able to get another game like this. I think that Brown will actually get more touches next week. Last season, CJ Anderson was Gurley’s back up, but he still racked up yards and touchdowns as a complement to Gurley’s nimble style. So, Brown is a great pick up if you are in need of a running back. He might repeat his 17
Waiver Wire Receiver: Terry Mclaurin (7.6% Rostered)
Terry Mclaurin was barely known until Sunday. He went out and surprised a lot of people by scoring 18.5(23.5 ppr) points against the Eagles. He looks to continue to rack up points, as the redskins lack a star receiver. He will certainly be taken in most leagues by the end of the week, so pick him up while you can.
Waiver Wire defense: Bengals (0.4% Rostered)
While drafting, a lot of us forget to pick a defense until the last round, leaving us with not much choice. A good idea if your team is in this position is to pick up a defense weekly based on match ups. For week two, the Bengals have a great match up against the 49ers. The Bengals held their own in a close game against the Seahawks in week one. While the Bengals Defense is at the literal bottom of the waiver wire, you can pick them up for week two where they will most likely perform well against the 49ers.
Must Starts For Week 2
Cam Newton: If Jimmy Garoppolo can throw and run against Tampa bay, then you can be sure Cam Newton can too. He had a pretty good performance against the Rams in week one, so expect better numbers in week two.
Devin Singletary: Devin Singletary isn’t a big fantasy name but against the Giants and with the starting role in Buffalo, he could continue his explosive running.
Antonio Brown: Antonio Brown has had a roller-coaster of an off-season. His off-the-field issues may or may not resolve on the Patriots, but for week 2 against the Dolphins, expect his usual big game.
Marquise Brown: Antonio Brown’s Cousin had a spectacular game against the Dolphins Sunday. I expect him to do the same to the Cardinals. Start him.
Panthers Defense: The Panthers lost in a very close game with the Rams on Sunday. Against the Buccaneers, I think the Panthers will be able to limit their opponents points a lot more. Start the Panther’s Defense.
Bench Warmers in Week 2
Aaron Rodgers: Rodgers is back and has new offensive weapons for the 2019-2020 campaign. However, this offense only scored 10 points against the Bears in week one. Against the Vikings, who shut down Matt Ryan, Rodgers has a low ceiling. Only start if you’re happy with around 10 points.
David Johnson: Against the Ravens’ defense, no run game can survive. There is no way Johnson gets enough yards to start him.
Atalanta Running backs: While Devonta Freeman and Telvin Coleman have been great fantasy assets in the past few years, it is always a risk to have only one of these players. You never know which one will have a good day and which one will only get a few touches. The risk grows against the Eagles defense. Sit both of these players.
TY Hilton: Hilton put up a nice 20 (26 ppr) point game in week one. However, the Titans shut down both Beckham and Landry in week one. I don’t think Hilton has a good day against the Titans.
The matchup of the Week
Browns at Jets: The Browns put up a disappointing performance in week one. The Jets surprised many. The Jets have momentum and the Browns are away. Start Jets Players (yes, even Sam Darnold) and expect a high scoring game.
Sleeper Pick: Josh Allen
Josh Allen is often labeled as another draft bust QB. As a result, his fantasy projections are low. However, I believe, based on how his performance improved near the end of last season, that he has a lot of talent. The Bills have a very good chance against the Giants this week, and I expect Allen to throw AND run all over that defense.
