Big Time Falcons D Shuts Out Charlotte Catholic
An Excellent Defense and Run Game Give the Falcons a Win Against the Cougars
In Friday night’s football game against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars, the Falcon’s stellar defense and outstanding run game dominated the playing field. The Falcon’s defense didn’t allow Charlotte to get anywhere near their end zone, shutting out any scoring from the Cougars. With an incredible 273 rushing yards, the Falcon’s run game was able to keep the Cougars offense off of the field and score the only touchdown of the game.
The final score was 7-0 Falcons, the shut out making a strong statement in the first game of the season. While a low score may seem boring, anyone who was in the crowd would know that the excitement remained high throughout the entire game. Watching defensive plays, such as critical sacks on third downs and the stuff on a fourth down that sealed the win for the Falcons in the fourth quarter, kept the crowd cheering and chanting. The win also boosted the Falcon’s national ranking. As of September 2nd, the Falcons are ranked 39th in the country according to MaxPreps.
The run game was also exciting to watch and a crucial part of winning the game. Moving the chains by running the ball allowed the Falcons to have far more possession of the ball than the Cougars. This statistic often correlates with the winner in football games, as the team with more time of possession has more opportunity to score. This is especially important in a defensive game such as Friday’s. I talked to George Wolo, the Falcon’s defensive tackle, about the team’s win. George stated; “Overall, we came out with the win. It wasn’t perfect but the defense played well, and now we are ready for next week to beat MSJ!
The Falcons have a good outlook for the rest of the season. The Falcon’s next game will be at Mount Saint Joe’s on , where they hope to bring another win back to GC.
