As Halloween came and went once more, let’s look closer into the trends of the popular holiday and see how it has changed over the years for people. While the spooky day didn’t receive much love from older kids in the past, it started to pick up popularity in recent years. When asked, Ms. Cissell of the Science department had this to say: “For a while, it felt like Halloween was not a cool thing anymore…but recently, it sounds like everybody is trying to do something, whether it’s hanging out with friends or going trick or treating.”
When interviewed, most people agreed that when it came to costumes, classic themes still exist and thrive to this day. Kennedy Phoenix ‘26 was one of these people, stating that she planned to dress up in the timeless robber costume. Of course, there were some themes that aren’t so well-received, one being the more recent Lorax costume, which was a more
“overused theme” according to Javier Padilla ‘26. Members of the Good Counsel community seem to have shifted away from the tradition of trick-or-treating, in favor of either parties or smaller gatherings with friends. One example of the latter is student Leyla Orhan ‘26: “I’m hanging out with some friends and we’re going to have a girls’ night…and play Halloween music and watch a spooky movie.”
Regardless, it doesn’t matter how you ended up spending Halloween night, so long as you had a good time, whether that was by trick or treating with friends or simply watching scary movies at home. One thing is for sure, though: now that it has passed, everybody can expect to see their local stores flooded with Christmas decorations and blasting Mariah Carey on the speakers for the hundredth time. And we will need to look forward to next year’s Halloween!
