This October, the Computer Studies department launched a new Student of the Month program created to recognize students who stand out in the classroom and encourage student excellence.
Created by Ms. Islam, each month students are nominated by Computer Studies teachers to be chosen as Computer Studies Student of the Month for their grade. Students are chosen based on both their academic performance and classroom conduct. Honorees are awarded by both school wide and personal recognition for their academic and social excellence. Additionally, recognition is also a reminder that being a good student is more than just academics, but also encompasses their behavior, participation, and interactions with other students.
October honoree Sarem Alemayehu ‘28 said, “students should be recognized for their effort, participation, and interaction with students, no matter what their grade is.”
This program doesn’t only create an impact on the honorees, it also inspires other students to work harder and aim for even higher goals. Students now have a better lens to see how important it is to be a leader, work hard and always try their best. “A good leader is someone who is sensible and also tries to understand the people that they are leading,” October honoree Su Hlaing ‘29.
The Computer Studies Student of the Month program gives students the opportunity to be acknowledged, and also encourages others to push themselves to be the best students they can be. By setting an example for other students, honorees demonstrate an example of a model student. Seeing what their classmates are able to achieve gives other students a feeling of hope and motivates them.
“The program gives students role models to look up to,” Computer Studies teacher Ms. Islam said. “It’s a way to show what’s possible when dedication and imagination come together.”
