Music reaches many hearts. People listen to music in various ways. Music can sometimes be life-changing. Some have a natural talent for music that people pursue passionately. So, without further ado, here are GC students who love to listen to music and like different albums that fit their musical tastes.
Kelli Debman, ’28, listens to R&B music and likes The Weeknd’s new album Hurry Up Tomorrow. Kelli’s favorite songs on the album were “Wake Me Up,” “Open Hearts,” and “Niagara Falls.” Her favorite quality of the song “Wake Me Up” was how you could hear every word and understand its meaning. Kelli didn’t like the beginning of the song because it was slow. Despite the odd beginning, she would add the song to her playlist but wouldn’t recommend it to her friends. For “Open Hearts,” Kelli liked how it’s an upbeat love song and would add it to her playlist but wouldn’t recommend it to her friends. Lastly, for “Niagara Falls,” she likes how it starts upbeat with accompanying soft singing. Kelli would add it to her playlist and recommend it to friends because it has a great beat.

Next, Nick Ferat, ’28, likes R&B and has listened to Mac Miller’s new album Balloonerism. His three favorite songs on the album were “Do You Have a Destination?“, “Stoned” and “Manakins“. As for the first song, “Do You Have a Destination?” Nick liked the profound message and how you could tell it was about a rough time in Mac Miller’s life. He disliked the depressing qualities of the song but would add it to his playlist and recommend it to his friends. Next, Nick runs down on “Stoned.” Nick liked how laid back it was and mentioned how relaxed he would feel after a long day of work to wind down. He didn’t like how repetitive it was; he would still add it to his playlist and recommend it to his friends—lastly, Manakins. Nick likes how it makes you calmly reflect on yourself and positively changes your mood. He wouldn’t recommend it because of how sad it is, but he would add it to his playlist.
Lastly, Jacob Rodriguez, ’28, listens to R&B, Drake, and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s album Some Sexy Songs 4 U. His three favorite songs on the album were “Nokia,” “Die Trying,” and “OMW.” “Nokia,” Jacob said, was “very catchy,” and he liked how the song started. He repeated the same lyrics a few times while still making the song sound interesting because of how early it was in the song. Jacob also liked the change in the middle of the song and how the chorus changes, which keeps the song interesting. Jacob said he would add this to his playlist and recommend it to his friends. Next, Jacob listened to Die Trying. He liked how the song represented the decisions that go through people’s heads when thinking about breaking up with someone and how painful it can be. Jacob says he liked how the song also explains how Drake’s dad guided him through the process of breaking up. Jacob would add this to his playlist but only recommend it to some of his friends who he knows would like it because “this song could get you in your feels,” Jacob says. Lastly, Jacob listened to OMW, which Jacob said was a catchy song, but the lyrics were bizarre in a good way; they support the catchy beat, but if you only pay attention to the lyrics, the song will sound very weird, which is why Jacob wouldn’t recommend this to his friends but would add it to his playlist.
