The most anticipated movies announced for the year 2025 to hit theaters!

As we stumble into the New Year through a series of eventful weeks, 2025’s box office is only just beginning to heat up. In the following article are just five of the most anticipated releases of 2025.

Den of Thieves

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller

Up first is Den of Thieves: Pantera, already released on January 10th is Den of Thieves: Pantera, a criminal thriller set in Nice, France. The movie follows a criminal mastermind, an ex-cop turned to a life of crime, and their crew as they prepare to rob a diamond vault. Although released to mixed reviews, Den of Thieves: Pantera is touted as a classic cops and robbers movie, giving the audience a peek into the criminal underworld of Den of Thieves. Finally, Den of Thieves: Pantera topped the box office at a cool $15.5 million making Den of Thieves: Pantera potentially allowing the series to continue.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

Set to release on July 2nd, 2025, Jurassic World Rebirth is set five years after Jurassic World Dominion. It follows a skilled team on a mission to collect genetic material from the largest Dinosaurs in the sea, air, and land. The film’s main protagonist, Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), is an ex-military operative who searches for meaning after leaving the service, but soon questions the ethicality of her mission. Expected to be PG-13, Jurassic World Rebirth is an Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, and Thriller film primed to thrust the storied franchise into an even more thrilling era.

A Minecraft Movie

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Family, and Fantasy

Primed to release on April 4, 2025, A Minecraft Movie was met with scathing criticism upon the release of its first teaser in early September of 2024. A Minecraft Movie, as its namesake implies, is set in the video game Minecraft and is a live-action, animated movie. The movie pits a band of misfits led by Steve (Jack Black) against the evil forces of the nether. As they fight to preserve the serenity of the overworld, the newly arrived misfits must battle to find their way home and back to their normal lives before it’s too late.

Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning

Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller

Potentially being the final installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is expected to be released in May of 2025. At the core of the movie’s plot is the mysterious weapon of mass destruction (WMD) device dubbed “Rabbit’s Foot.” Originally pursued and failed to be contained by the legendary impossible mission force (IMF) spy Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 3, the “Rabbit’s Foot” could potentially kill millions, including Hunt himself. Although Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) escapades are endless could this legendary spy truly save the world one last time?

Paddington in Peru

Genre: Animal Adventure, Jungle Adventure, Adventure, Comedy, Family, Mystery

First released to United Kingdom (UK) theatres on November 8, 2024, Paddington in Peru is expected to be released to audiences in the United States on February 14, 2025. The film follows Paddington and the Brown family in the jungles of Peru as they travel by boat and plane in search of Aunt Lucy, Paddington’s aunt. Although Paddington in Peru faced criticism for its unfortunate character recasts, its audience ultimately accepted the movie in the UK. Lastly, the film, if successful in markets outside of the UK, could allow the directors to release another Paddington movie later this decade giving the audience a final chance to connect with the beloved bear.

Dog Man

Last, but not least is Dog Man! Expected to hit theatres on February 7th, the famed graphic novel character Dog Man will star in his first-ever animated movie. Dog Man, the movie, follows the canine cop as he fights to stop his arch nemesis Lil Petey from destroying all do-gooders. The film also covers Dog-Man’s birth as a character born from the injuries of a police officer and his canine part that could only be treated through the life-saving surgery of fusing the duo into a half-dog/half-man hybrid. Ultimately, viewers can only hold their breath in anticipation of the release of Dog Man to experience the beloved characters’ long-awaited cinematic appearance.
