The new 12-team College Football Playoff Bracket was selected on December 8th. The 12 teams chosen for the playoffs will comprise the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions are set to have a first-round bye, earning an automatic trip to the quarterfinals.
The teams with the first-round bye are 1 Oregon, 2 Georgia, 3 Boise State, and 4 Arizona State.
The other teams that made the playoffs are 5 Texas, 6 Penn State, 7 Notre Dame, 8 Ohio State, 9 Tennessee, 10 Indiana, 11 SMU, and 12 Clemson.
In a controversial pick, SMU ended up in the playoffs over teams like Alabama and South Carolina.
On Friday, December 20th, 10th-ranked Indiana heads to South Bend, to play 7th-ranked Notre Dame. On the 21st, 11th-ranked SMU will head to State College, PA to face off against 6th-ranked Penn State. 9th-ranked Tennessee will go to Columbus to take on 8th-ranked Ohio State, and 12th-ranked Clemson will travel to Austin to play 5th-ranked Texas. Quarterfinals will be on December 31st and January 1st. Semi-Finals will be on January 9th and January 10th. The College Football National Championship will be on January 20th.
