Turkey is the classic Thanksgiving dish.

Families all over the country enjoy gathering on Thanksgiving to share a meal and express gratitude for everything they have in life. Everyone celebrates differently, with unique sides and desserts. The most important, the turkey, is always the household classic. I interviewed GC students this week to explore different traditions and favorites. Every family is different in what they serve, and these students would like to share their Thanksgiving favorite food.

“My favorite Thanksgiving food would have to be my grandmother’s crab bisque. Hers is the best because it is completely from scratch. It’s so delicious; I always get seconds!”

Emma Gieseman ‘25
“My favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes because it’s one of my favorite things to make.”

Rachel Shrestha ‘24
“My favorite is cake!”

Eliel Kelley ‘25
“My favorite food is sweet potato pie and macaroni and cheese. I like sweet potato pie because it is better than pumpkin pie. And I like macaroni and cheese because I just do!”

Graedin Kush ‘26
“My favorite Thanksgiving food is mac and cheese. I love mac and cheese so much; it is definitely the best side. My family has had the same recipe for years, and it has never been changed. It is for sure the best food.”

Roman Calure ‘26
“My favorite Thanksgiving food has to be pumpkin pie. Whether my family makes it fresh baked or if it’s Costco brand, I’ll eat that thang up. Pumpkin pie is definitely the best Thanksgiving dessert.”

Cam Badrak ‘25
“My favorite Thanksgiving food is baked mac and cheese because it slays.”

Mary Ellen McDermott ‘23
“My favorite Thanksgiving food is my mom’s stuffing! She makes it with baked apples and raisins as well as the regular stuffing ingredients, which makes it the perfect mix of sweet and savory.”

“I am a picky eater—that’s my first thing. So I stick with dark-meat turkey. Dark meat is better than white meat because white meat is usually drier. You gotta have Turkey on Thanksgiving. That’s what everyone thinks about.”

Kate Nonnenkamp ‘23
“I’m not the biggest fan of most Thanksgiving foods, but I love these biscuits my mom makes each year. They have rosemary and cheese and are super fluffy! My other favorite is a classic: apple pie!”

Idera Laifa ‘24
“My favorite is apple pie because it tastes amazing.”
