OLGCHS Speech and Debate Team Excel!

This past weekend the Good Counsel Speech and Debate team competed in the National Catholic Forensic League tournament against other high school teams across the country. Over 30 members of our team qualified for this tournament at Metro finals back in March. At a tournament of over 2,500 competitors, our Falcons represented us well. We were fortunate to have eight of our students make it into final rounds of competition, beating out nearly 300 other competitors in each separate event.

Declamation (memorize and deliver a speech initially given by another person):

Alex Goutier (Soph.), National semi-finalist and in the top 12

Miracle Adedeji (Soph.), National quarter-finalist and in the top 24

Uzoma Elekwachi (Soph.), National octo-finalist and in the top 48

Duo Interpretation (a partnered, memorized event where competitors perform a scene from a play, movie, book):

Schuyler Johns (Sr.) and Kennedy Davidson (Sr.), National finalists and earned fourth place.

Oral Interpretation (read event where students prepare a selection of poetry and a selection of prose):

Kennedy Buck (Sr.), National semi-finalist and in the top 12

Sara Robb (Jr.), National octo-finalist and in the top 48

Original Oratory (write and memorize an original speech):

Haley Hopkins (Jr.), National octo-finalist and in the top 48

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding speakers when you see them!
