A Snowy Super Bowl Weekend?

What could possibly be better than a snow day after the Super Bowl?  But instead of delving into that fantasy, let’s take a look at the exciting event coming up on Sunday.

This weekend the New England Patriots will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, but before we dive into the most interactive playoff prediction yet, let’s do a quick recap.

Eagles 38 – Vikings 7

In a highly-anticipated matchup, the Eagles showed up when they needed to most. The Vikings got ahead in an early 7-0 lead, but the Eagles answered with an interception for a touchdown and didn’t take their foot off the pedal. QB Nick Foles showed flashbacks to his amazing 2013 season as he threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns. In a game that was predicted to be highly contested, the Eagles played to their full potential. They now move on to face one of football’s greatest dynasties, while the Vikings celebrate a monumental season marked by Stefon Diggs’ historic walk-off touchdown.

Patriots 24 – Jaguars 20

The Jacksonville Jaguars almost had the Patriots figured out. Unfortunately for them, “almost” wasn’t enough to beat Tom Brady. The Jaguars took a lead into halftime, but a few key plays down the stretch cost them a ticket to the Super Bowl. As with any Patriots game, there were a few controversial penalties and missed calls that punished their opponents. The Jaguars made the mistake of thinking they were home free after the first half, and it cost them the game. The reigning champions return to the Super Bowl, while the Jags mourn over a game that should’ve been theirs.

For our final issue, we are going to see what a few GC students have to say about the upcoming matchup:

“Tom Brady, the greatest QB of all time, going up against the very talented Eagle’s defense line, that rotates 8 linemen, will be key in the game. Eagles don’t have great linebackers, so Gronk should have a great game. The Eagles’ offense has everything including a line, run game, and as we saw last round they can pass. Patriots will make QB Nick Foles pass the ball, and I believe Foles can deliver. With that being said I have the Eagles winning, 27-24.”

-Curtis Walker ‘19

“I think that the Eagles secondary led by Malcolm Jenkins is enough to stop the Patriots’ passing game especially with Gronk banged up. The Eagles’ dynamic front seven should be enough to stifle the Pats run game, especially with the likes of Fletcher Cox and Chris Long. I think that Nick Foles will have a similar game to the NFC Championship game and will rely on Zach Ertz for much of the passing game. I expect the Eagles to sneak out a victory, 27-24.”

-Thomas Kallarakal ‘19

“If there ever was a time to put money on the underdog, this is the time. Put your money on Nick Foles and Philadelphia.”

-Jake Taylor ‘19

“I could care less about this game, I’m looking forward to Alex Smith bringing back respect to Washington sports.”

-Christopher Margarites ‘19

“Usually, I just watch the Super Bowl to have a good time and watch the funny commercials.”

-Rocky Thomas ‘19

Whether you’re watching the game just to spend time with friends or a diehard football fan, you are bound to have lots of fun this weekend. Keep an eye out for the last issue of NFL playoff predictions and don’t bet all your money away this weekend.
